#40 Make my own sushi

As a birthday present, my boyfriend enrolled us in a "Sushi 101" class at a local Japanese restaurant. We both really like sushi and have wanted to try making it at home but thought it'd be difficult to do. Not the case at all! After one hour in this class, we were making maki rolls in full assembly line fashion!

First we learned how to prepare rice with just the right consistency and flavor, then moved on to selecting good seaweed paper and choosing the right kind of fish. We learned about the various types of tuna and salmon and what to look for when selecting a filet, as well as how to cut and store any excess raw fish.

I was excited that the head chef also taught us how to make my favorite roll, a house specialty he's named the "Hairy Mexican" roll. So yummy!
