29. Adopt/Buy a Puppy
#29 just sort of spontaneously occurred. We've been talking about getting a puppy for some time, but figured we would wait until things calmed down a bit at the new place. However, after our trip to NYC last weekend and seeing everyone out walking their dogs, we decided we would start our search for a dog when we got home. I figured it would take us a while to find the "right" dog, so we still had some time. One trip to the Delaware SPCA changed all of that! As we were walking around, this guy walks in with two black lab puppies. They weren't available for adoption yet but would be in a few days. A few days later (after we'd already gotten our hearts set on one) we discover that they had both been adopted internally by shelter volunteers before they were even available to the public.
We then began the search for black lab puppies with very little luck, until we learned that my boyfriend's cousin had just had a litter and had one puppy left. PERFECT! We went down to check her out and fell in love immediately!
She certainly is a monster, being one of the biggesst in the litter at only 10 weeks, but she is so well behaved and is already doing well with crate training. She walks on a leash right beside you like a little velcro dog and is starting to learn some commands. We have taken her swimming, and had her off leash quite a few times too. Seems like we really lucked out with this adorable puppy!
